GENOCOST 2026: Honoring Memory, Pursuing Justice

GENOCOST 2026 marked a significant moment in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's ongoing pursuit of truth, justice, and international recognition. Commemorated in Kinshasa, the event paid tribute to the millions of Congolese who have lost their lives or suffered as a result of decades of armed conflict and violence.

Beyond honoring the victims, this year's observance reinforced the country's determination to place the issue on the global agenda. Congolese authorities highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory through education, national memorial initiatives, and the planned establishment of a dedicated museum.

They also renewed their call for greater international support in the fight against impunity and for meaningful justice and reparations for victims.

More than a day of remembrance, GENOCOST 2026 reflected the nation's commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of the past inspire collective action toward peace, accountability, and lasting human dignity.
